Are people's teeth getting bigger and whiter?

In the past 2 years I've suddenly noticed many peoples' teeth are big and white and look fake. I always had straight teeth, but they seem not white enough now and often smaller than other people's. My girlfriends used to have gaps but now they're all perfectly aligned and as white as her eyeballs! She said she had 'veneers'. Is this something I'm missing out on?
